Veneto is located in north-eastern Italy. It borders with Trentino-Alto Adige, Austria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy with Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and faces south-east on the Adriatic Sea.

It is a land rich in nature, art and traditions that has a characteristic lagoon landscape on which Venice stands, a unique city in the world, a year-round destination for thousands of Italian and foreign tourists. The provinces are: Venice (capital), Belluno , Padua , Rovigo , Treviso , Verona and Vicenza .

Cortina d’Ampezzo, the “pearl” of the Dolomites, a world famous ski resort.

Padua with the basilica of Sant’Antonio, the magnificent Scrovegni chapel frescoed by Giotto and the Botanical Garden, rich in medicinal plants, Vicenza with the historic center, Villa Capra Valmarana and Villa Poiana.

Venice, an ancient maritime republic and UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its lagoon, islands and the Grand Canal, ancient palaces, Piazza San Marco, the Basilica full of mosaics and domes, the Doge’s Palace, churches adorned with canvases , sculptures and frescoes, museums and squares and the famous “campi” and “campielli”, the glass of Murano , Burano lace, shops and artisan workshops. It is also remembered for its Carnival and for the Biennale.

TRADITIONAL CUISINE

Another typically Venetian specialty is stewed eel ( bisato ). Among the typical desserts there are pancakes, zaletti, carnival galani and pandoro from Verona.

Among wines, worthy of mention is the Amarone della Valpolicella , the Breganze Bianco, the Bardolino and the Soave. Equally appreciated are also sweet wines such as Recioto di Soave, sparkling wines, including Prosecco di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and grappa in Bassano del Grappa and Conegliano.

Venetian cuisine is mainly based on rice, vegetables and polenta which usually accompanies meat, fish and cheese dishes.

Known are the beans of Lamon, the asparagus of Bassano del Grappa, the celeriac of Verona and the red radicchio of Treviso.

The typical first course is the “hot soapa”, a soup with pigeon and chicken meat; mushrooms and roe deer. Typical seafood dishes are fish risotto with scallops, scampi, cuttlefish; the “ saor ” or sardines macerated in vinegar with onions and creamed cod or Vicenza-style.

WHAT TO DO

For winter sports enthusiasts there are famous places such as Cortina d’Ampezzo , Falcade and San Vito di Cadore where it is possible to practice skiing, snowboarding, snowrafting, climbing, trekking and the classic walk with “snowshoes”.

For a beach holiday there are the beaches from Bibione to Cavallino where you can also practice beach volleyball, boating, surfing, water skiing and cycling.

For a direct contact with nature you can go hiking, trekking or mountain biking in the protected areas of the Veneto including the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites or in the Lessinia Park.

Near the Po Delta the presence of numerous species of birds offers the opportunity to practice birdwathcing and photonaturalism while on Lake Garda all water sports such as sailing, boating and diving.

For those in search of well-being and relaxation there are the spas of the Terme Euganee.

Do not forget the wine routes that from Bardolino to Pramaggiore.
