Calabria is located in the extreme south of Italy.

It is a region that knows how to please every type of tourist thanks to its welcoming climate, the splendid colors of the sea and its wild and unspoiled nature.

The provinces are: Catanzaro (capital), Reggio Calabria , Cosenza , Crotone and Vibo Valentia .

Calabria

Certainly Calabria is the favorite destination for lovers of the sea and nature. Its 800 km of coastline offer splendid beaches such as Capo Vaticano , one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world.

Naturalistic sites of some interest are the parks of Sila , Serre , Aspromonte and Pollino .

Cosenza with the historic center full of characteristic alleys and alleys, the Brettii and Enotri Museum and the Galleria di Palazzo Arnone .

Tropea with its clear sea, the historic center full of period buildings and alleys and the Church of Santa Maria dell’Isola, is one of the most coveted places in Calabria.

Instead, Reggio Calabria with its wonderful Falcomatà promenade, the Duomo, the famous Riace Bronzes and the Aragonese Castle, offers a sea of cultural opportunities.

Isola di Capo Rizzuto attracts tourists with its stupendous sea, with the Civic Demologico of the Economy of Work and History and with the Column of Hera Lacina .

TRADITIONAL CUISINE

Calabrian cuisine is characterized by strong flavors such as ‘nduja , a typical sausage with a soft consistency and a particularly spicy taste; the famous chilli , at the base of many typical dishes; there sardella , the “poor man’s caviar”; the famous Tropea red onion with from the brand PGI , extra virgin olive oil, honey, jams … Everything and more to satisfy the needs of every palate.

The typical dish of Calabria is mustica , dried anchovies covered with chilli and preserved in oil.

Fusilli seasoned with pork ragout, tomato and chilli pepper, i maccaruni , prepared by rolling them around a knitting needle, stuffed lasagna, maccu di fave , a past flavored with pecorino cheese, black pepper and oil; there licurdia , based on onions and potatoes and swordfish, cooked in a greedy way.

Among the desserts we find mostaccioli, frozen nougat, cubbiata and almond figs.

The DOC wines of Calabria are Cirò , Savuto, Sant’Anna di Isola Capo Rizzuto, Donnici , Greco di bianco, Pollino, Lamezia and Melissa.

Also excellent are liqueurs based on bergamot , licorice, cedar or herbs.

WHAT TO DO

In Calabria it is possible to spend the days on the enchanting beaches or to practice various sports: windsurfing, kitesurfing or scuba diving to discover the wonderful seabed between gorgonians and wrecks of the Second World War.

Inside you can instead make rafting trips along the Lao river or through the Sila gorges, canyoning, orienteering or paragliding for the bravest.
