The Cilentana Coast is a section of Campania’s coast that goes form the Salerno’s Gulf to the Policastro’s Gulf. Il belongs to the vast territory of Cilento which represents two-thirds of the Salerno’s province.
The Cilentana Coast includes 11 municipalities: Paestum, Agropoli, Castellabate, Acciaroli, Ascea, Pisciotta, Palinuro, Marina di Camerota, Scario, Policastro and Sapri.
The Cilento’s beaches are among the best of Italy thanks to the sea always clear, clean and protected; in fact there are 12 Blue Flags in this area.

The Cilentana Coast is an area full of sites to be discovered: from the archaeological to the bathing sites, we will list you the more chatacteristics locations which it is worth to visit.
The city of Agropoli is located near the National Parc of Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni and is known for its boardwalk and its beaches. The most distinctive is certainly the Cove of Trentova, nominated Blue Flag, is a natural paradise in which the crystalline sea attracts more tourists that are
bewitched by the this very beautiful beach.
Another important step is Acciaroli, little fraction of Pollica’s municipality. Also Acciaroli has one of the clearest and cleanest sea of Italy awarded Blue Flag. The peculiars things of Acciaroli are the historical centre and the port area, that is the most modern of the village.
One of the most evocative areas of the Cilentana Coast is the small town of Palinuro that is known for the large number of beaches, the caves, the harbors and the inlets. It rise on the cape of Capo Palinuro and attracts many national and international tourists. The most important cave of Palinuro is the Blue Cave, named like this for the intense blue colour of the sea; another place just as pretty is the famous beach of Buon Dormire, achievable only by the sea. In this beach the colour of the sea is emerald green and from that you can admire the famous Scoglio del Coniglio. Palinuro is also famous for hectic nightlife, it’s full of clubs, disco in which have fun in the summer’s evenings.
To 10 km from Palinuro you can find the amazing Marina di Camerota, a touristic area of the Cilentana Coast very well known both from the national and international tourists. It’s nominated the โCilento’ s Pearlโ. Marina di Camerota hasn’t only a large number of beaches, but it’s also a place full of history and nature. In fact you can visit in it a lot of caves and for their historical and archaeological importance it has been established the Virtual Paleolithic Museum.
One of the most beautiful beaches of Marina di Camerota is the Baia degli Infreschi, a small sea inlet that you can reach by the sea, from the city’s port. This cove it’s a suggestive place because it’s a crystalline mirror of water.
The Cilentana Coast is also famous for the Mediterranean Diet because the original place of this diet is the city of Pioppi, a fraction of the Pollica City Council.
The Mediterranean Diet has been created by the american scientist Ancel Keys in Pioppi. In this city he began to study the usual nutrition of the Cilento’s population which is poor of animal fats and reach in vegetables, legumes, olive oil and fish. Keys considered that this nutrition produced some benefits to the healt like the reduction of the โdiseasesโ like the hypertension, the diabetes, the atherosclerosis. The fraction of Pollica has also founded the Living Museum of the Mediterranean Diet in honor of his founder Ancel Keys.

Once you are in the Cilentana Coast, you should visit the city of Paestum, known all over the world to be one of the most important archeological sites of Italy. Paestum has an high historical and architectural importance because it was founded by the Greek at the end of the VII century to. C.
It’s very famous for its monuments, particulary the Temples and the Excavations. It’ also important to mention the National Museum of Paestum that guards one of the more important Greek works, the Diver’s Gave.
Paestum isn’t only culture and architecture, and according to many people it’s right in the City Coucil of Capaccio Paestum that is produced the best Mozzarella di Bufala Campana; the city has also beautiful beaches from the which it starts the Cilento’s coastline.
Another important archaeological site of the Cilentana Coast is represented by the Excavations of Velia, located in the district of Ascea within the National Parc of Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni. The Excavations of the Velia’s Greak metropolis have a privilaged position among the important bathing sites of the Coast. The symbol of the Exavations is the famous Pink Door, the single copy of the Greek arc dating from the IV century.
It is worth to visit two suggestive places, both located inland of the Cilento. The first one is the Chartreuse of Padula, declared from the UNESCO in 1998 World Heritage Site, currently it’s center of manifestations, events and meetings.
The second one is the Caves of Pertosa, the only speleological place in Europe in which you can sail in an undergroud river and you can penetrate in the heart of the Mounts Alburni.
