It is located in north-eastern Italy and borders on Austria, Switzerland, Lombardy and Veneto. WHAT SEE
Rovereto with its museums, castles, the Hermitage of San Colombiano, the great “bell of peace”.
Riva del Garda , with the Palazzo Pretorio and the 12th century fortress.
Also worth visiting are the castles of the region, including Castel Tirolo, Castel Roncolo, Castel d’Appiano and Castel Beseno.
There are numerous natural parks, the Stelvio National Park, the Adamello-Brenta Regional Park, the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Regional Park, the Sesto Dolomites Park and the Enchanted Sciliar Park.
The Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and represent a real paradise for ski enthusiasts: Madonna di Campiglio, Canazei, Moena, San Martino di Castrozza are the most famous destinations, popular in every season of the year.
Trento with its historic center, the Buonconsiglio castle, the Science Museum, the Christmas markets, the Duomo, the beautiful cathedral dedicated to San Vigilio, patron saint of the city.
Bolzano , the “Gate of the Dolomites” is home to museums and has an interesting architectural and artistic heritage, among which the Cathedral, dedicated to Maria Assunta, stands out.
TYPICAL DISHES
The best-known regional specialties are speck, kaminwurz, a raw and smoked pork or venison sausage, Trentino grana, mountain toma and casolet (typical cheeses).
Among the first courses we mention canederli and polenta, barley soup, pasta and beans, mushroom soup and “brò brusà”, a simple but tasty soup.
Among the main courses we remember the rabbit with grappa, the goulash, the venison with polenta, the trout seasoned with various sauces, the “lucanica”, a pork sausage.
The best known wines are Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot, Chardonnay and the excellent sparkling wines of the area.
WHAT TO DO
Trentino offers holidays to experience the mountains in both summer and winter.
Skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, climbing, snowshoeing and trekking in Madonna di Campiglio, Selva, Ortisei, Santa Cristina, Canazei and Moena, San Martino di Castrozza.
Walks, excursions and trekking among the paths of the Stelvio National Park, among the woods of the Val di Fassa or among the high altitude lakes.
Lake Garda , surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, is the ideal place to practice many different activities : mountain biking, sailing, windsurfing, diving and excursions to the surrounding hills.
Interesting are the food and wine tours among the vineyards of the famous pinot noir, sparkling wines and wines. Not to be missed is the ” apple road ” in Val di Non, which celebrates the best known apples, from golden delicious to rennet.
