Puglia is a region of southern Italy located in the heel of the boot.

It is enclosed between Molise, Campania and Basilicata and is bathed by both the Ionian and the Adriatic with 800 kilometers of coastline.

Puglia also includes the Tremiti archipelago off the Gargano coast , 5 square km of wonders and depths for unforgettable diving, the small Cheradi islands (Taranto), the island of Sant’Andrea (Gallipoli) and Pianosa with the marine reserve .

The provinces of Puglia are: Bari (capital), Barletta, Andria, Trani, Brindisi, Foggia, Lecce and Taranto.

Alberobello which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996 for its famous trulli , ancient stone houses with a cone-shaped roof that were built by hand and without the use of any glue.

Andria with Castel del Monte, built by Frederick II of Hohenstaufen in the 13th century. The castle has eight rooms on the ground floor and first floor arranged to form an octagon and eight octagonal towers.

Apulian cuisine is mainly based on three ingredients : durum wheat, vegetables and oil that accompany meat and fish dishes and hand-made pasta (orecchiette and strascinati).

For fish lovers, there is plenty of choice: raw fish, marinated, with soups and even accompanied with cheese.

Altamura is famous for its bread, Taranto for Clementina and the bella della Daunia (olive cultivated since 1400), Foggia and the province for Muschiska, a dried meat of sheep, goat or veal.

Bari for Cavatelli and Orecchiette (those with turnip tops in particular), but also for Maltagliate, strascinati and tripoline as well as for burrata.

WHAT TO DO

Puglia is obviously the favorite destination for sea lovers given the possibility of choosing between the Ionian and the Adriatic . The wonderful waters of the Tremiti Islands , with San Domino, San Nicola, Capraia, Cretaccio and Pianosa together with Santa Maria di Leuca represent the ideal places to relax or practice water sports such as windsurfing or kitesurfing or snorkelling.
For those who love nature there are the natural paths of the Gargano Park with the Umbra Forest or of the Murge Park, ideal for cycling. There are also numerous festivals and village festivals such as the Carnival of Putignano, the Feast of San Nicola in Bari and the Challenge of Barletta as well as the famous Taranta night in Melpignano which attract many tourists from year to year .
