Friuli Venezia Giulia is located in northeastern of Italy and borders Veneto, Slovenia and Austria.

It offers tourists a varied landscape: the Adriatic Sea with the beaches of Grado and Lignano Sabbiadoro, the snow-covered slopes of the Julian Alps with Carnia, Piancavallo and Tarvisiano and the cities of art such as Triste and Udine with a rich cultural heritage.

Aquileia declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO with the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, the National Archaeological Museum, the Paleochristian Museum and the Dolomites , a UNESCO site with snow-capped peaks and green valleys.

Trieste : with its museums and castles, the historic center with the Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia and the Arco di Riccardo, the Revoltella Museum and the Natural History Museum.

TRADITIONAL CUISINE

It is based on ingredients such as meat, dairy products, sausages and legumes.

Typical dishes are polenta , porcina (made of boiled pork and sausages served with sauerkraut and mustard), vegetable and legume soups.

Very famous is the San Daniele ham, exported all over the world, the Montasio cheese and the smoked ham from Sauris.

The salami, the soppresse, the sausages and the musèt with brovada , that is the cotechino served with turnips soured in the marc.

Among the desserts, the famous gubana , a pastry filled with dried fruit, strudel and fruit cakes.

Among the wines we mention Picolit , Refosco , Terrano , Malvasia , Tocai , Rebula and traditional and flavored grappas .

WHAT TO DO

In Friuli it is possible to spend a holiday dedicated to physical activity, wellness and fun: the mountains are the ideal destination for fans of winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, climbing, ice skating and trekking in Tarvisio, Piancavallo, Sauris and Sella Nevea.

The sea, with the famous beach of Lignano Sabbiadoro , offers relaxation and water sports: beach volleyball, water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, sea-watching and water games in fun water parks.

The protected areas offer numerous nature trails, trekking or mountain biking ; birdwatching is practiced in the Cavanata Valley Reserve, mountaineering and climbing in the Natural Park of the Dolomites.

Also renowned are the spas, including the Terme di Grado and those of Lignano Riviera , which offer a holiday dedicated to health, well-being and beauty.

Not to be forgotten are the wine routes where you can taste typical products, including the famous San Daniele ham or Montasio cheese.
